Abdoulaye Ba, a student at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD), passed away this Monday. He was enrolled in the second year of dental surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Odonto-Stomatology.
According to the president of the medical students’ association, Atab Sagna, the student was allegedly "beaten by law enforcement in his room" before being evacuated to the medical service of the Center for University Works of Dakar (COUD), where he received first aid, reports Le Soleil.
For several days, Senegalese universities have been the scene of protest movements, notably related to claims regarding scholarship payments. At UCAD, these protests escalated into clashes between students and law enforcement, plunging the campus into an atmosphere of tension and concern.
