Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana Labs, recently addressed discussions regarding the decentralization of Hyperliquid. According to ChainCatcher, Yakovenko expressed similar criticisms towards all Layer 2 (L2) solutions, emphasizing that a system's permissionless nature is determined by whether users can participate in any part of the protocol stack using their own resources without needing approval from a trusted third party.
Yakovenko argued that if users are unable to do so, the system cannot be considered permissionless. He noted that regardless of user actions, it is impossible to operate the Base or Hyperliquid sequencers, drawing parallels to the issues he has criticized in L2 solutions.
