29 June – Saints Peter and Paul
Apostles, Martyrs & Pillars of the Church
Solemnity

St. Peter, the fisherman from Galilee, was chosen by Christ as the rock upon which He would build His Church. He confessed Jesus as the Messiah, received the keys of the Kingdom, and led the early Church after Pentecost. Tradition holds he was crucified upside-down in Rome under Nero.

St. Paul, once Saul the persecutor, was dramatically converted on the road to Damascus. The Apostle to the Gentiles, he wrote much of the New Testament, undertook three great missionary journeys, and tirelessly preached Christ crucified. He was beheaded in Rome. Both died around 64–67 AD and are venerated together as the founders of the Church in Rome.

“You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.” (Matthew 16:18)
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Two very different men united in love for Christ — one the steadfast rock, the other the fiery missionary — reminding us that God uses our unique gifts for the building up of His Kingdom.

Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Saints Peter and Paul, grant us firm faith like Peter’s, zealous missionary spirit like Paul’s, and the grace to remain faithful until the end.
