Identity is the core of that design. Kite does not rely on a single key controlling everything. Control is split. There is an owner, usually a person or organization. There is the agent, with its own cryptographic identity. Then there are session keys, created for short tasks. If a session key fails, damage stays limited. The agent and owner remain protected and this structure mirrors how people manage risk but applies it to machines.
Payments follow the same logic. On most blockchains, fees and settlement times are tolerable for humans, but not for machines that act often. Kite expects frequent, small transactions. Agents can pay for data, compute, or access without asking each time, as long as they stay within rules set by the owner. Stable assets can be used for budgeting. Spending caps keep costs predictable and payments are not added later. They sit at the base of the system.
Kite also introduces Proof of Attributed Intelligence, often called PoAI. The idea is simple. When value is created, the contributors should be visible. If an agent relies on a dataset, the data provider should be recognized. If a model is used, the builder should benefit. In many AI systems today, these links disappear. Kite tries to keep them intact by recording contribution paths on-chain. It does not solve every fairness issue, but it makes value easier to trace.
A practical example helps clarify this. Imagine a research agent deployed in early 2025 and its task is to track public data, pay other agents for feeds, run analysis and publish reports. The owner funds it with a fixed amount and defines limits. There are no daily approvals. No shared wallets. If costs rise too fast, the agent stops. If a session key is compromised, exposure is contained. Every action is logged. Nothing about this setup is speculative. The pieces already exist in Kite’s design.
Autonomy does not mean loss of control. Kite allows owners to define what agents can and cannot do. Spending limits, allowed counterparties, time restrictions, and emergency shutdowns are enforced through smart contracts. Once rules are set, agents operate freely inside them. Humans step back, but they do not disappear. This balance is difficult to achieve and often missed by systems that lean too far in one direction.
The network uses a native token, commonly referred to as KITE. It pays transaction fees, supports staking, and enables governance. Early incentives helped bootstrap activity. Over time, rewards are meant to depend on real usage, not constant emissions. If agents are not active then the network has little value and token supply and schedules were refined through 2024 and 2025 as the protocol matured.
What separates Kite AI from many AI-focused projects is its starting point and agents are not treated as users with scripts. They are treated as actors with identity, budgets, and responsibility. Identity, payments, and limits are part of the protocol itself. This narrows the audience, but it sharpens the purpose.
There are still risks. Complex agent logic introduces security concerns. Autonomous spending raises legal questions. Poorly designed agents can still cause harm, even with limits. Adoption is another challenge and developers must rethink how they build systems and designing for agents is not the same as designing for people.
