⚠️ LOST $50 MILLION DUE TO COPYING THE WRONG WALLET ADDRESS – A PAINFUL AND COSTLY LESSON 👇🏻
‼️ On December 20, a victim (0xcB80) lost $49,999,950 USDT in an address poisoning attack.
💬 What happened
1. Test transaction: Before transferring $50 million USDT, the victim sent a test transaction of $50 USDT to their own address (0xbaf4b1aF…B6495F8b5).
2. Hacker’s method: Taking advantage of the fact that many wallets hide the middle of wallet addresses with “…”, the scammer created a fake address with the same first and last 4 characters as the real one.
3. Wrong copy: When sending the remaining $49,999,950 USDT, the victim copied the address from the transaction history without carefully checking the full string, and accidentally selected the fake address.
4. Result: The entire amount was sent directly to the scammer’s wallet.
