Holiday Cheer, Not Holiday Hacks: Keep Your Crypto Safe

The holiday season brings travel, celebrations, and distractionsb and that’s exactly when crypto security often slips. As routines break and attention shifts to family and festivities, scammers ramp up activity, knowing vigilance is lower.

Start with the basics: protect your keys and devices. Keep hardware wallets physically secure and always store recovery (seed) phrases separately from the device.

The recovery phrase is the true master key to your funds never store it online or keep it easily accessible, especially when guests are around or you’re traveling.

Next rule: double-check every transaction, no exceptions. During holiday shopping or crypto gifting, malware can silently replace copied addresses. Always verify the address, network, and amount directly on your hardware wallet’s screen before approving. That screen is your last trusted checkpoint.

Avoid public Wi-Fi at airports, hotels, or cafés when accessing wallets or exchanges. These networks are prime territory for man-in-the-middle attacks and data interception.

Be extra alert to phishing and social engineering. Fake giveaways, impersonation messages, and AI-powered deepfake scams spike during holidays. No legitimate wallet, exchange, or support team will ever ask for your private keys or recovery phrase ever.

Finally, practice digital minimalism. Keep only small amounts in hot wallets on everyday devices, store the majority offline, and update wallet apps, firmware, and operating systems before the holiday rush.

Slow down, verify everything, and let the holidays bring peace not lost crypto.
