🚀 Is Russia Targeting #ElonMusk ’s Starlink? NATO Intelligence Raises Alarm 🚨
NATO intelligence agencies suspect Russia is developing a new kind of anti-satellite weapon aimed at Elon Musk’s Starlink constellation, according to intelligence findings reviewed by the Associated Press. Unlike traditional weapons that strike a single satellite, the system would reportedly release hundreds of thousands of tiny metal pellets into orbit, potentially damaging multiple satellites at once.
Described as a “zone-effect” weapon, the technology could disrupt large areas of space, making damage difficult to contain and possibly affecting other satellites operating nearby. Intelligence officials say the pellets would be extremely small and hard to track, yet capable of damaging fragile satellite components like solar panels.
Starlink has played a crucial role in Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion, supporting battlefield communications, targeting, and civilian connectivity when infrastructure is damaged. Because of this, Moscow has previously warned that commercial satellites assisting Ukraine could be considered legitimate targets.
While Russia publicly supports United Nations efforts to prevent the weaponisation of space, Western officials remain concerned. France’s Space Command accused Russia of increasingly “irresponsible and hostile actions” in orbit, though the US Space Force declined to comment.
The intelligence report does not confirm whether the system has been tested or when it might become operational. Some experts remain sceptical, warning that deploying such a weapon could create long-lasting space debris and even damage Russia’s own satellites.
Others say the threat alone could be used as a strategic deterrent. However, analysts caution that turning space into a debris-filled battlefield could harm all space-faring nations, not just military targets.
