🇺🇸 US President Donald Trump has once again asserted that the United States needs Greenland for national security, reigniting diplomatic tensions with Denmark and Greenland’s leadership.
📢 Speaking in Florida, Trump said Greenland’s strategic Arctic location makes it vital for US defence, pointing to the presence of Russian and Chinese vessels in nearby waters.
“We need it for national security, not for minerals,” he said.
👤 Trump also appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland, stating he would “lead the charge.” Landry welcomed the role, openly backing the idea of Greenland joining the US — a remark that drew sharp backlash.

“Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders. You cannot annex another country — even in the name of security.”
⚠️ Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen called the move “completely unacceptable” and said the US ambassador will be summoned over the issue.
