The transnational crime research organization GI-TOC released a report stating that illegally mined gold in the Amazon region is increasingly being traded in Venezuela through USDT. The report points out that over the past two years, Venezuela has become an important destination for illegal Amazon gold, with some gold from Guyana being settled locally in USDT. The Venezuelan gold industry generated approximately 2.2 billion dollars in revenue last year.
