With this thought, the little elephant set off into the jungle to search for them. He looked among trees, bushes, and plants, but his tusks were nowhere to be found. Suddenly, he saw a monkey sitting on a tree.
“Hello, Uncle Monkey,” the little elephant said politely. “My tusks are lost. Have you seen them anywhere? Two sharp tusks?”
“No, little one,” the monkey replied. “I haven’t seen your tusks anywhere.” Then the monkey leapt to another branch and disappeared.
The little elephant walked on. Soon he met a giraffe. He greeted him and asked:
“Uncle Giraffe! Have you seen my two sharp tusks? I’ve lost them.”
The giraffe stretched his long neck and replied with the same answer as the monkey: “No, I haven’t seen them.”
The little elephant kept walking until he came across a lion. He greeted him and asked:
“Grandfather Lion, have you seen my two long, sharp tusks? They’ve gone missing.”
The lion said, “No, I haven’t seen your tusks. But how did they get lost? Why didn’t you take care of them earlier?”
By then, night had fallen and darkness spread through the jungle. The little elephant was tired. The lion’s words had made him even more worried. He thought to himself: I must go back and tell my mother everything.
So, the little elephant returned home. His mother was anxiously waiting for him. When he arrived, she kissed his forehead and asked, “My son, where have you been? Why are you so late?”
The little elephant, trembling with fear, said:
“My tusks… my two long, sharp tusks are lost! I searched the whole jungle, but I couldn’t find them anywhere.”
His mother looked at him with surprise and asked:
“Your tusks are lost? Which tusks?”
With a sad face, the little elephant said:
“My two long, sharp tusks. I searched everywhere but couldn’t find them.”
The mother elephant wrapped her trunk around his neck, pulled him close, and burst into hearty laughter. Hearing her laughter, the birds flew out of their nests, and the animals nearby paused to listen.
Then she said:
“My dear son, all baby elephants are born without tusks. As the babies grow, their tusks slowly start to appear. One day, they become so big that everyone can see them. So, my silly little one, when you grow up, your tusks will come out by themselves.”
The little elephant exclaimed in surprise:
“Oh! I didn’t know that at all!”
Both mother and son laughed together and kept laughing for a long time.
