Privacy, in particular, has followed this pattern closely. There was a time when it felt almost rebellious, a quiet resistance against the radical transparency that blockchains introduced. Then it became a feature, then a narrative, then a checkbox. Somewhere along the way, it stopped feeling like a principle and started feeling like positioning. Every project claimed it in some form, each with slightly different language but eerily similar intent. And over time, they began to blur together. Not because they were identical, but because the distance between them became harder to notice.

This is where the fatigue sets in. Not from lack of innovation, but from the constant need to filter signal from repetition. When you have watched enough cycles, you stop reacting to what is being said and start paying attention to what is actually being built. Improving usability can weaken guarantees. Increasing compliance introduces constraints that limit flexibility. Markets, regulations, user behavior, all of these factors shape outcomes in ways that code alone cannot control.

What I find myself paying attention to now is not just what a project enables, but what it restricts. Not just what it promises, but what it quietly admits it cannot do. There is a certain honesty in limitations that polished narratives tend to avoid. And sometimes, that honesty is a better indicator of longevity than any roadmap.

Because in the end, relevance in this space is not determined at launch. It is tested slowly, often quietly, long after the initial attention fades. It depends on whether the system continues to make sense when the narrative around it is no longer new. When privacy is no longer trending, when zero-knowledge is no longer a headline, when the market has moved on to the next idea that feels just slightly more exciting.

The question that remains is not whether this kind of infrastructure can be built. It clearly can. The question is whether it can continue to matter once it is no longer being introduced, once it becomes just another part of the landscape, quietly doing its job without needing to be noticed. And whether, in a market that constantly searches for the next story, something designed to be subtle can hold its place without becoming invisible.
