MARISKS warned that scammers posing as Iranian authorities are demanding cryptocurrency transit fees from shipping companies for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, where about 20,000 seafarers are stranded. MARISKS said the messages are fraudulent and were not sent by Iranian authorities. The company said at least one ship that tried to leave the strait and came under artillery fire on Saturday had been targeted by the scam. The report linked the disruption to Iran's renewed blockade of the strait in response to the US blockade of its ports, which has left hundreds of ships stuck in the Gulf region.
