New York sued Coinbase and Gemini on Tuesday, alleging their prediction market offerings are illegal gambling products under state law. The lawsuits said the platforms act as bookmakers and let users ages 18 to 21 place bets even though New York bars people under 21 from gambling on mobile apps. The case adds to a wider state-federal fight over whether sports and other event contracts are gambling or federally regulated swaps.
