What is @WalletConnect WCT

Native token of WalletConnect Network — WCT powers the network: it is used for governance, rewards, staking, fees, etc.

Utility + Governance Token — Token holders can vote on proposals, help shape the fees, choose how parts of the network evolve.

Tokenomics
Max total supply: 1,000,000,000 #walletconnet

Circulating supply (at time of writing): ~ 186 million

Allocation: various parts of the supply are set aside for Foundation, team, airdrops, rewards, early backers, core development. Some of those allocations have vesting periods.

Upgrades
These are the key upgrades /

1. Transferability enabled (April 15, 2025)

Before that date, $WCT tokens were non-transferable. You couldn’t send them freely between wallets or exchanges.

As of April 15, 2025, WCT is fully transferable. So holders are able to move, trade, or send tokens freely.
2. Staking & Governance started / continue

When transfers were locked, staking and governance functions existed, but the restriction on transfer was meant to stabilize early ecosystem development and reduce speculative distortions.

After transferability, holders can now more fully participate in governance proposals, vote etc.
3. Expansion & Network Integration

WCT has been deployed on Optimism (Layer-2) and there are moves/projected usage also on other chains to improve scalability and reduce cost.

The upgrade includes turning WalletConnect from just a "connection tool" (wallet-dApp connector) into a more token-driven, community-co-governed Web3 infrastructure.
4.Incentives

Network rewards are allocated to node operators, stakers, and network participants to encourage performance, uptime, contribution etc.
