Verus-Ethereum Bridge Exploited for ~$11.58M
Just hours ago, cybersecurity firm Blockaid flagged an active exploit on the Verus-Ethereum cross-chain bridge. Multiple security teams (including PeckShield and CertiK) have confirmed the details.
What happened:
An attacker used a forged cross-chain payload to bypass the bridge’s verification functions (likely submitImports/proveImports). In one transaction, they drained:
• ~1,625 ETH
• ~103.6 tBTC
• ~147k USDC
The stolen assets were quickly swapped into ~5,402 ETH on Uniswap. Funds are still sitting in the drainer wallet:

Timeline note: This hit just days after Verus pushed an urgent mandatory software update. The attacker’s EOA was funded via Tornado Cash shortly before the exploit.
