The Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), Harli Siregar, revealed that this asset seizure marks the largest in history. According to Harli, the IDR 11.8 trillion confiscation is unprecedented.

“This is yet another press conference related to the seizure of an enormous amount of money, which may be the biggest in history,” said Harli.

At the same event, Director of Prosecution for the Deputy Attorney General on Special Crimes, Sutikno, stated that the full IDR 11.8 trillion was not displayed. The AGO only presented IDR 2 trillion.

“What we’re seeing around us now is money totaling IDR 2 trillion. This is just part of the total amount we mentioned earlier, which is IDR 11,880,351,802,619,” Sutikno explained.

Sutikno clarified that the seizure is related to a corruption case involving the approval of crude palm oil (CPO) exports during 2021–2022, implicating the Wilmar Group. The total seized amount is a staggering IDR 11,880,351,802,619.

“This money is the result of criminal acts of corruption in the granting of CPO export facilities and its derivatives by the corporate defendants of the Wilmar Group, amounting to IDR 11.88 trillion,” said Sutikno.

He added that the funds came from five corporations under the Wilmar Group: PT Multimas Nabati Asahan, PT Multinabati Sulawesi, PT Sinar Alam Permai, PT Wilmar Bioenergi Indonesia, and PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia.

“During the investigation, these five corporate defendants returned a total amount equivalent to the state losses they caused, totaling IDR 11.8 trillion,” Sutikno said.

These funds are currently stored in a holding account of the AGO at Bank Mandiri. Sutikno confirmed that the seizure was conducted with permission from the Central Jakarta District Court.

“The seizure was carried out at the prosecution stage under Article 39 Paragraph 1 letter A in conjunction with Article 38 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), for the purpose of examination at the cassation level,” he explained.

For your information, the AGO has named three corporations—Wilmar Group, Permata Hijau Group, and Musim Mas Group—as suspects in the corruption case involving CPO exports or raw cooking oil materials for the 2021–2022 period. This case was developed following legal proceedings against five individual defendants in a separate cooking oil corruption case.

In its ruling, the panel of judges concluded that the perpetrators caused financial losses to the state amounting to IDR 6 trillion and economic losses to the nation amounting to IDR 12.3 trillion.

This corporate CPO case had previously resulted in an acquittal by the Central Jakarta Corruption Court. The AGO has since filed a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court.
