#PizzaDay ! Today we feast on pizza!
The coder Laszlo Hanyecz made history on May 22, 2010, by completing the first commercial purchase with Bitcoin. He paid 10,000 bitcoins for two Papa John's pizzas, valued at around dollars back then. That stash of crypto today would be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
He forked out 10,000 BITCOIN for 2 PIZZAS: today they would be worth 780 million dollars.
The Buyer: Laszlo Hanyecz, a software developer and Bitcoin mining pioneer, who resided in Florida, USA.
The Seller: Jeremy Sturdivant, a 19-year-old who accepted the offer that Laszlo posted on the Bitcointalk forum, bought the pizzas, and delivered them right to his door.
The Reason: Hanyecz wanted to show that cryptocurrency could work as a real payment method for everyday goods.
Since it marked the first real-world use of cryptocurrency, the international community celebrates each May 22 as Bitcoin Pizza Day.
