Most folks allocate their resources linearly:
Put in 1, get back 1.2; put in 10, get back 12.

But the real world is a complex system, with feedback lags, non-linear amplification, path dependence, black swans, and emotional contagion.

Spend 100k, sometimes it just burns, other times it buys a critical node, a cognitive leap, which can later amplify into a 10M opportunity.

The outcome isn’t dictated by a single investment, but rather by the investment position × timing × system feedback × subsequent amplification capacity.

So in a complex system, the underlying order for resource allocation is simply:

Survival resources > Optionality resources > Amplification resources > Signaling resources.

The first goal isn’t to win; it’s to survive until the real opportunity shows up. First, control the downside, then buy optionality, and finally concentrate resources on validated non-linear opportunities.

The precondition for amplification is that you’re still in the game.

The most dangerous mistake is treating a complex system like a linear one when placing bets.
