Iran is reportedly charging $1 per barrel in Bitcoin for tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. No BTC? No passage. Ships even get warned: try to transit without approval and get destroyed.

300-400 ships currently stuck (normal: 135/day, now: 10-15)

~$2M in BTC per standard load moving real value

The kicker? Iran chose  Bitcoin. Not dollars. Not gold. Not some CBDC.

Their own words: "A few seconds to pay, ensuring they can't be traced or confiscated due to sanctions." 

Sanctions froze them out of traditional banking. Bitcoin didn't care. It cleared the transaction in minutes, no permission needed, no bank to say no.

This is what censorship resistance looks like in the wild.
