READING I Acts 12:1-11
In those days Herod the king laid violent hands upon some who belonged to the Church He killed james the brother of John with the sword, and when he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. And when he had seized him, he put him in prison and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people. So Peter was kept in prison; but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the Church, The very night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison, and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, "Get up quickly" And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, "Dress yourself and put on your sandals." And he did so. And he said to him, "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me." And he went out and followed him, he did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city It opened to them of its own accord, and they went out and passed on through one street and immediately the angel left him. And Peter came to himself, and said, "Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting."

Beloved: I am already on the point of being sacrificed; the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength to proclaim the word fully, that all the Gentiles might hear it So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil and save me for his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon BaR-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Reflection:
Today we focus on two great pillars of the Church - Peter and Paul. Though their martyrdom occurred on separate days, they are distinctly linked. St Augustine writes, "They were as one." Jesus asked Peter to follow Him and he did. Peter too was crucified, head downward. Paul knew and accepted his fate before being beheaded. We read, "I have fought the good fight; 1 have finished the race; I have kept the faith" (2 Tim 4:7). The sacrifice of his blood was Paul's ultimate act of worship. Most of us are not asked to give up our lives for our faith. But are we willing to live for Christ and risk proclaiming alongside Peter that Jesus is the Messiah? Are we willing to fight the good fight and keep the faith alongside Paul? Jesus, I trust in you.

Let us make a small roof chamber with walls, and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there." One day he came there, and he turned into the chamber and rested there. And he said to Gehazi his servant, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Well, she has no son, and her husband is old." He said, "Call her." And when he had called her, she stood in the doorway. And he said, "At this season, when the time comes round, you shall embrace a son."

But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. For we know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. Reflection:
In today’s reading, we encounter the generosity of the Shunammite woman who welcomed the prophet Elisha with quiet reverence and hospitality. Her kindness was not driven by what she could gain, but by her recognition of holiness passing through her home. In reward for her selfless faith, God blessed her with the gift she had longed for but never dared to ask — a son. This moment shows that God’s blessings often flow into hearts that make space for His presence. St. Paul, in the second reading, reminds us that in baptism we share in Christ’s death and resurrection. To live for Christ means to die to sin — to leave behind our old self and walk in the “newness of life.” The life of a true Christian is therefore marked by quiet transformation, by letting the grace of Jesus live and breathe within us. In the GOSPEL, Jesus calls for radical love — a love that puts Him first, even above family or comfort. True discipleship demands the cross, but it also promises life: “He who loses his life for my sake will find it.”* Even the smallest act of love done for His sake — a cup of water given to a disciple — never goes unnoticed. Today’s message is one of deep generosity and faith. When we make room for Christ — in our homes, our hearts, and our sacrifices — He fills our emptiness with life, purpose, and eternal reward. Jesus, I trust in you.

So the city was besieged till the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. On the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine was so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land. Then a breach was made in the city; the king, with all the men of war, fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, by the king's garden, though the Chaldeans were around the city. And they went in the direction of the Arabah. But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him. Then they captured the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, who passed sentence upon him. They slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him in fetters, and took him to Babylon. In the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the bodyguard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. And he burned the house of the Lord, and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem; every great house he burned down. And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down the walls around Jerusalem. And the rest of the people who were left in the city and the deserters who had deserted to the king of Babylon, together with the rest of the multitude, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried into exile. But the captain of the guard left some of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and ploughmen.

In today’s reading, Jerusalem’s destruction marks the heartbreaking consequence of Israel’s long disobedience. The temple, once filled with God’s glory, lies in ruins, and the people are carried into exile. Yet amid this tragedy, the psalmist’s lament by the rivers of Babylon reveals a faith that refuses to forget God’s presence — even in foreign captivity. Sorrow becomes a reminder that separation from God’s ways leads to emptiness, but remembering Him restores hope. In the GOSPEL, Jesus meets a leper who approaches with humble faith: “ Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.”* With a simple touch, Jesus restores not only his body but his dignity. This moment contrasts the despair of exile — showing that God’s mercy is always greater than judgment. Today we are invited to turn back from spiritual ruin to healing grace. When we bring our brokenness to Christ with trust, He responds with compassion and power, rebuilding what sin and sorrow have destroyed. Jesus, I trust in you.

FIRST READING A reading from the book of Isaiah 49:1-6
Listen to me, O islands, and pay attention, you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name. He made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me away. And he said to me, "You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified." But I said, "I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my right is with the Lord, and my recompense with my God." And now the Lord says, who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him, and that Israel might be gathered to him, for I am honoured in the eyes of the Lord, and my God has become my strength- he says: "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth."

Reflection:
In today’s reading, we see how God’s plan unfolds through chosen servants formed even before birth. Isaiah speaks of being called from his mother’s womb, shaped by God to bring light and salvation to all nations. This calling reminds us that every life has a divine purpose — we are not accidents, but part of God’s eternal design to bring His love into the world. The psalm celebrates this truth with awe: “You formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” It is a reminder that God knows us completely — our thoughts, our struggles, our hidden gifts. Even when we feel our efforts are in vain, as Isaiah did, our true reward lies in the Lord, who sees every faithful act. Paul, in the second reading, connects this divine calling to the mission of John the Baptist. John’s humility shines: he prepares the way for Christ but never claims glory for himself. His mission was to turn hearts toward the Savior — a task that still calls to each believer today. In the GOSPEL, John’s birth fulfills God’s promise. His naming, “John” — meaning “God is gracious” — marks a turning point in salvation history. Zechariah’s restored speech symbolizes renewed faith and the power of obedience. This reflection reminds us that God’s hand is at work from the beginning of every life. Like Isaiah and John, we are called to serve, to shine as lights where we are placed, and to trust that God’s grace will complete what He began in us. Jesus, I trust in you.

Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, destroying them utterly. And shall you be delivered? Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said: "O Lord the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. "In today’s reading, we encounter King Hezekiah in a moment of great trial. Surrounded by the mighty army of Assyria and mocked by their blasphemous words, he does not rely on military strength or political alliances — he goes straight to the temple of the Lord and spreads the letter before God. This gesture is deeply symbolic: it shows total surrender and trust. Hezekiah places his fear, his problem, and his enemy directly before the Lord. And God answers. The Lord intervenes with power — not because Judah was mighty, but because one faithful man prayed with humility and confidence. The angel of the Lord struck down the enemy camp in one night, proving that *God alone defends His people** and that **His zeal accomplishes what human power cannot. The psalm then sings this victory: “God establishes his city forever.” It is not walls or weapons that make a city strong, but God’s presence within it. In the GOSPEL, Jesus calls us to discernment, mercy, and discipline. “Do not give dogs what is holy” — meaning, do not waste what is sacred on those unwilling to receive it. And again, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” — the heart of all righteousness. Then comes the hard truth: the path to life is narrow. Few walk it because it demands faith, humility, and perseverance — the very virtues Hezekiah showed in the face of threat. Today’s message teaches us that true victory begins in prayer. When we bring our fears before God, He becomes our defender. When we walk the narrow way, we share in His light. Trust, obedience, and faith — these are the weapons that conquer the proud and open the gate to eternal life. Jesus, I trust in you.*
