๐ด Hackers are attacking through fake Office extensions โ over 4,600 wallets stolen
Experts from Kaspersky Lab are sounding the alarm: hackers are spreading malware through fake Microsoft Office add-ons. The goal is mining on your computer and stealing crypto by substituting addresses.
๐ How it works:
โ The malware is disguised as Office extensions
โ Distributed through the SourceForge website
โ The victim runs the installer โ the system gets infected
โ ClipBanker changes the cryptocurrency wallet address in the clipboard
โ Money is transferred to the attackers
โ Already 4,604 users have been affected, of which 90% are in Russia
๐ Impact: negative โ a blow to trust in alternative software sources and an increased risk among crypto investors.
๐ Historical fact:
A similar ClipBanker was used in attacks in 2021. At that time, the virus replaced addresses for more than 10,000 users โ the damage exceeded $2.5 million.
