In 2024, the total value of stolen funds increased by approximately 22% year-on-year, reaching $$ 2.2 billion. The number of individual hacking incidents also increased, rising from 282 in 2023 to 303 in 2024.

DeFi accounted for the largest share of stolen assets in Q1 2024. However, centralized services became the main targets in Q2 and Q3. Notable hacks on centralized platforms included DMM Bitcoin in May 2024, which resulted in losses of $$ 305 million, and WazirX in July 2024, with losses totaling $$ 234.9 million.
