The recent scandal related to the LIBRA token and the participation of the Argentine president, Javier Milei, has generated a wave of reactions in the region. Several Latin American leaders have already spoken out on the matter:

⚫Gustavo Petro, Colombia, responded with a call for investment in local products, such as Colombian coffee, highlighting the importance of supporting producers and not "fraudster magnates." His message was a direct criticism of Milei and a defense of the peasant economy.

“Invest, President, in Colombian coffee. It is growing in international price like never before. And it is also sold in Libras. It is not done by fraudster magnates, but by the peasantry of my land.”

⚫Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico, was not far behind and described the alleged fraud as "extremely serious." He emphasized the obvious conflict of interest in promoting a private benefit from the position of president and demanded a thorough investigation to clarify what happened.

“If the fraud is confirmed, it is extremely serious. Above all, how far do the powers of a president reach to promote something private. Apart from the fraud, if confirmed, the issue is how as a president you promote something of private benefit. There is an obvious conflict of interest. Let's see what else comes out of this issue.”

⚫Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela, went even further by referring to Milei as a "crypto scammer" with a "record" both in Argentina and internationally. After these statements, the Venezuelan attorney general, Tarek William Saab, announced the possibility of initiating a judicial process in case any Venezuelan has been harmed by the purchase of the token promoted by Milei.
