EU fines Apple and Meta 700 million euros under the Digital Markets Act
According to PANews, the European Union has issued fines to Apple and Meta for the first time under the Digital Markets Act, amounting to 500 million and 200 million euros respectively, totaling approximately 700 million euros (about 798 million USD).
The EU accuses Apple of preventing developers from directing users away from the App Store to purchase services, while Meta's ad-free subscription service has been deemed illegal. Both companies must rectify the situation within 60 days or face further penalties.
This decision comes amid strong criticism of EU tech regulation by the Trump administration, with the fines being milder than expected.
