$XRP

XRP is the native digital currency of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), an open-source platform launched in 2012 by developers David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto. XRPL is designed to provide fast and cost-effective payment solutions, focusing on global financial transactions.

Overview of the XRP Project

• Primary Objective: To facilitate international financial transfers quickly and at low cost, with a focus on financial institutions.

• Consensus Mechanism: XRPL uses a unique consensus protocol based on a network of independent validators, allowing transactions to settle within 3 to 5 seconds.

• Main Uses: XRP acts as a bridge currency to provide instantaneous liquidity in international transactions, helping businesses make transfers more efficiently compared to traditional payment systems.

• Relationship with Ripple Labs: Ripple Labs is the company that supports the development of XRPL and offers financial solutions using XRP, but it is a separate entity from the network itself.

Legal and Regulatory Status

In July 2023, a U.S. court ruled that XRP is not a security by itself, marking a legal victory for Ripple Labs. In March 2025, the U.S. government announced its intention to include XRP in its strategic reserve of digital assets, reflecting the growing recognition of its importance in the financial system.
