Elon Musk Announces Retirement of SpaceX Dragon Spacecraft Due to President's Threat to Cancel Contract
According to a report by Deep Tide TechFlow, on June 6, Elon Musk announced on the social platform X that the company would immediately begin retiring the Dragon spacecraft due to the president's threat to cancel its government contract with SpaceX.
SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft is a key series of spacecraft developed by Elon Musk's company, which started in 2005 and includes the cargo version Dragon 1 and the crewed version Crew Dragon. The Dragon spacecraft can carry a maximum of 7 passengers and features a modular design.
The Dragon spacecraft can deliver over 6,000 pounds of scientific equipment and supplies to the space station on each mission, and it restored the capability for the United States to independently send astronauts into space after the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011. Retiring the Dragon spacecraft will severely impact the U.S. space program.
