Solemnity (Lenten Weekday, but Solemnity takes precedence)

The silent guardian of the Redeemer.

Husband of Mary, foster-father of Jesus, just man of the House of David. Chosen by God to protect the Holy Family — warned in dreams to flee to Egypt, to return after Herod's death, to settle in Nazareth. Carpenter, provider, teacher of Jesus in the hidden years.

Patron of the Universal Church (declared by Bl. Pius IX, 1870), of workers, fathers, happy death (tradition holds he died in Jesus and Mary's arms), the dying, families, and many trades. Model of obedience, poverty, chastity, and trust in divine providence.

White vestments (Solemnity overrides Lenten violet). Gloria sung, Creed proclaimed — one of the few times in Lent the joy breaks through.

When life demands quiet fidelity amid uncertainty, Joseph teaches: do your duty, trust God's whispers, protect what is entrusted to you.

St. Joseph, terror of demons, pray for fathers, workers, the Church, and all who seek a holy death.
