The more I read about Midnight, the more I believe that it is not a blockchain, but rather a privacy system. I was attracted by its hybrid design. It maintains an open registry to be paid out, yet sensitive labor occurs in the shadow on the user machine. A zero-knowledge proof is only captured on the blockchain as an assurance of the outcome. These private contracts can be written in Compact, a TypeScript-style language that simplifies the creation of ZK apps by developers.
