REUTERS: META (FACEBOOK) MAY CUT MORE THAN 20% OF STAFF TO FOCUS ON AI

🔹 Meta is said to be considering cutting more than 20% of its workforce, equivalent to about 15K–16K employees.

🔹 The reason is that the company is spending tens of billions of USD to build AI infrastructure and data centers, so it needs to streamline operations and increase efficiency through AI.

🔹 CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that many previous projects required a large team, but now one very skilled person combined with AI can accomplish it.

🔹 Departments not directly related to AI, especially Reality Labs and middle management levels, may be the most affected group.

🔹 If it happens, this will be Meta's largest layoff since the "efficiency year" 2022–2023, when the company laid off more than 20K employees.

🔹 This trend is also occurring across the tech industry, as many companies reduce headcount but significantly increase investment in AI.
