The Solana Foundation has launched a new tool to connect artificial intelligence to its blockchain network.

Last week, the Switzerland-based non-profit organization 'Agent Skills' presented. It allows AI programs to automatically conduct transactions on the chain.

The market for AI agents' payments is still small.

This open tool allows developers to install ready-made modules with a range of code. Thus, AI agents can handle automatic tasks, receive payments, and exchange assets on the Solana network.

The foundation has released official modules for security and compatibility as well as over 60 skills from key platforms in Solana's ecosystem such as Jupiter Exchange, Raydium, and Helius.

However, the foundation announces that tools from the community have not received official approval. Users should be aware that there are security risks when connecting AI agents to decentralized finance protocols that are not audited. The existence of a tool in the toolbox is no guarantee.

The launch shows the cryptocurrency industry's effort to reach the growing market for ‘agent payments’. Here, AI initiates and completes transactions without human involvement.

The consulting firm McKinsey & Co. has stated that more companies need to adapt to an AI-driven environment. The firm believes this could create a market worth $5 trillion by 2030. The market includes trade, logistics, and various platforms.

Despite the rapid development of blockchain infrastructure for AI, market demand is still very low. There is thus a significant gap between technology and actual use.

For example, x402, an existing agent protocol, only handled about $24 million in volume over the past 30 days.

The blockchain analysis company Artemis states that “x402’s ‘agent payments’ are mostly an illusion.” The company observed that x402 activities have decreased from over 731,000 transactions per day in December to about 57,000 per day in February.

These figures show that although networks like Solana are laying the foundation for an AI-driven economy, traders and users have not arrived yet.
