While the Bitcoin Layer 2 track is still in its infancy, Hemi has quietly built a massive ecosystem with a TVL exceeding 1.2 billion dollars and over 90 deployed protocols! This project, led by former Bitcoin core developer Jeff Garzik, is opening up the imagination space for BTCFi with its unique technical architecture and institutional partnerships.
Hemi integrates a complete Bitcoin node within the EVM through the hVM virtual machine, allowing Solidity contracts to directly read data from the BTC chain. Its PoP consensus anchors state proofs to the Bitcoin mainnet, achieving Bitcoin-level finality in about 90 minutes. This design not only retains the security of BTC but also gains liquidity from the EVM ecosystem.
