Tehran, in the framework of negotiations with Washington on ending the war, did not agree to transfer its enriched uranium stocks to the USA. This was stated on Friday, April 17, by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei. "Enriched uranium is as sacred to us as Iranian land, and under no circumstances will it be transferred anywhere," Baghaei emphasized.
Trump: The US will extract enriched uranium from Iran
US President Donald Trump previously stated on April 16 that Iran allegedly agreed to hand over 'nuclear dust' to Washington for free. This is how the head of the White House described enriched uranium, which, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), ended up deep underground after US airstrikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites in June 2025.
In an interview with CBS News on April 17, Trump stated that the extraction of enriched uranium from Iran would not be carried out by American ground troops. When asked who would handle its transportation, he replied: "Our people will work together with the Iranians. Then we'll take it to the United States." According to Trump, such cooperation would only be possible after an agreement is reached.
Trump expects a peace agreement with Iran 'in the next day or two.' 'The Iranians want to meet. They want to make a deal. I think the meeting will probably happen over the weekend,' he stated in an interview with Axios.
However, later on, the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied Donald Trump's statement that Iran agreed to hand over its enriched uranium stocks to the US.
