The U.S. government is currently operating an active Bitcoin node, as confirmed under oath before Congress , in the first public disclosure of direct U.S. combatant command involvement in the Bitcoin network infrastructure.
This confirmation came from Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), on Wednesday before the House Armed Services Committee during a hearing on the defense authorization request for fiscal year 2027.
The crucial question this disclosure raises is not whether the government is collecting Bitcoin – it is not – but whether government entities are quietly embedding themselves into the protocol's structure for reasons that go far beyond financial aspects.
