A truce between Israel and Lebanon will be extended for three weeks, announced US President Donald Trump. He "looks forward to hosting" the Israeli Prime Minister and the Lebanese President soon.

A truce between Israel and Lebanon will be extended for three weeks, announced US President Donald Trump on Thursday, April 23, on the social platform Truth Social.

This agreement was preceded by a meeting that included, besides the head of the White House, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the ambassadors in Israel and Lebanon, Mike Huckabee and Michelle Issa, as well as 'senior representatives' from both countries. 'The meeting was very successful! The United States will cooperate with Lebanon to help it defend itself against Hezbollah,' Trump continued.

In the same message, he mentioned that he 'looks forward to the opportunity to host' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the near future. 'It was a great honor for me to participate in this historic meeting!' Trump concluded.

The first meeting between representatives of Israel and Lebanon in over 30 years.

On April 14, the first direct talks between representatives of Israel and Lebanon since 1993 took place in Washington. The ambassadors of both states in the U.S. conducted the talks. Following the meeting, steps were taken towards launching direct negotiations on peaceful resolution, as reported by the State Department at that time.

The meeting of the ambassadors of Israel and Lebanon in the U.S. was referred to by the American side as a 'historic milestone.' Washington also assured that it is ready to support both countries in the event of further negotiations, expressing hope that they will lead to a 'comprehensive peace agreement.'

On April 9, a statement was released on the Israeli government's website indicating that Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon regarding the disarmament of the Iran-aligned radical Islamist group Hezbollah and the establishment of peaceful relations between the countries.
