Ripple keep unlocking and Selling Millions Of XRP Every Month
$XRP Escrow: How it Works?
XRP was created with a fixed supply of 100 billion tokens. To ensure market stability, a significant portion is managed through a programmatic escrow system.
📍The Monthly Cycle
On the first of every month, 1 billion $XRP is automatically unlocked from the XRP Ledger.
📍Operational Use: Ripple typically retains 200–300 million $XRP to fund company operations and liquidity programs.
📍The Re-lock: The remaining 700–800 million XRP is immediately returned to new escrow contracts, pushing their release dates further into the future.
📍Current Status (April 2026): Approximately 33.3 billion XRP remains in escrow.
This process creates a steady increase in the circulating supply (currently ~61–66 billion tokens). While the releases are public and predictable, they create a consistent "supply overhang." For the price to rise, market demand must outpace this monthly influx of new tokens.
> The escrow system prevents Ripple from flooding the market, but its monthly releases mean XRP holders face gradual, programmatic dilution by design.
