In the face of the multiplication of global crises and the increasing need for funding, innovation in fundraising has become a necessity for humanitarian organizations, and it is now crucial to explore channels of generosity that go beyond traditional methods. It is in this context that Médecins du Monde (MdM) announced, on November 21, 2025, the launch of a major experiment: the acceptance of donations in cryptocurrencies. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the French fintech Lyzi, is part of a broader movement of Web3 adoption by the humanitarian sector, a movement initiated notably by its counterpart, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

Blockchain and crypto in the service of a good cause.

The mechanism established allows donors to make instant, traceable, and secure donations directly from their crypto wallet. The list of accepted assets is extensive, including Ethereum, stablecoins (such as EURC and USDC), and more than 80 other cryptocurrencies.

The central element of this solution is the management of risk associated with volatility. The technology developed allows for automatic and immediate conversion of digital assets into euros. This ensures that MdM has the necessary funds for its actions without delay, without being exposed to market fluctuations. In practice, this conversion process, facilitated by their partner Lyzi, ensures a fluid flow of donations, essential for emergency operations.

This opening allows reaching a new community of donors, particularly the crypto-native generation and international contributors. And that’s exactly what the director of communication and development of the organization based in Saint-Denis thinks.

The initiative of Médecins du Monde is in line with the action initiated last month by Médecins sans frontières (MSF), which has established itself as a pioneer of blockchain philanthropy with its program Stories of Care.
