THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2021 & 2025 BULL RUN. EXAMPLE OF FILECOIN CAN HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND MORE
--
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2021 AND 2025 BULLRUN , $FIL ( filecoin) IS ONE GOOD EXAMPLE I HAVE PICKED. DON’T EXPECT MUCH. Here’s what I found about circulation (or “circulating supply”) of Filecoin (FIL) during the 2021 bull run — and why it’s somewhat fuzzy. ⸻ 📌 What public data says • One source claims that in early April 2021 (around the time FIL hit its all-time high) circulating supply was “over 64 million coins.” • However, many modern aggregators (and some historical summaries) list circulating supply figures for 2021 that are much higher. For example, one data table lists “circulation” in 2021 as ≈ 67.2 million FIL. • That said — by today’s standards — these numbers seem extremely low. For comparison: recent data sources show circulating supply in late 2025 as ~ 720–730 million FIL. ⸻ ⚠️ Why there’s a big discrepancy & uncertainty • The small numbers (64–70 million) likely reflect early 2021, when many tokens were still locked, vested, or otherwise not released into the free market. That means only a fraction of eventual supply was circulating at the time. • Later “circulating supply” figures (hundreds of millions) reflect a more mature supply distribution — but those are not from 2021. They come from 2023–2025 data snapshots. • Over time, as more FIL were mined, vested tokens unlocked, or otherwise released, the circulating supply grew — which drastically changes the supply base compared to 2021. ⸻ ✅ What we can reasonably conclude for the 2021 bull run • FIL was extremely scarce in 2021 compared to later years: tens of millions of FIL, not hundreds of millions. • The “all-time high” price (~ US$ 236.84 on 1 Apr 2021) happened under that small circulating supply — which helps explain the high price per coin at the time. • Thus, any comparisons to FIL now (with much larger supply) must account for this large increase in circulating supply — otherwise they risk overstating prospective returns.
