๐จ ETH MAINNET UPGRADE GOES LIVE TOMORROW โ Hereโs why Fusaka is a BIG deal for Ethereum
Ethereumโs Fusaka upgrade activates on Dec. 3, and itโs one of the most important scaling steps since Proto-Danksharding.
This fork boosts rollup performance, rewires gas markets, and prepares the network for even bigger blob expansions later this month.
Hereโs whatโs coming ๐
๐ต 1. PeerDAS = Cheaper Rollups, Massive Scaling
Fusaka introduces PeerDAS (EIP-7694), a new data-availability sampling system.
Instead of nodes downloading full blobs, they just sample tiny parts โ meaning:
โ Higher blob throughput
โ Cheaper L2 fees
โ A path to 10ร more rollup bandwidth
This directly reduces costs for zk-rollups and optimistic rollups.
๐ต 2. Block Gas Limit DOUBLES
Ethereumโs default block gas jumps from:
30M โ 60M
This gives more room for:
standard transactions
blob processing
rollup data flow
A major throughput upgrade at the base layer.
๐ต 3. Two More Blob Expansions Coming
Ethereum will activate two follow-on forks:
๐
Dec 9 โ BPO1
๐
Jan 7 โ BPO2
These โBlob Parameter Onlyโ upgrades expand blob capacity even further without new code changes.
๐ต 4. Blob Fee Market Tightened (EIP-7918)
Blob fees will now stay aligned with L1 execution gas.
This prevents:
โ blobs becoming dirt-cheap while L1 gas stays expensive
โ rollup pricing distortions
โ arbitrage abuse
Result: more stable, fairer rollup economics.
๐ต 5. Security & Stability EIPs
Several proposals harden Ethereum against heavy workloads and DoS risks:
EIP-7823 โ caps ModExp sizes
EIP-7825 โ raises ModExp gas
EIP-7883 โ tx gas ceiling
EIP-7934 โ RLP block size limit
These make client performance more predictable during peak usage.
๐ Why โFusakaโ?
Itโs a fun blend of:
Fulu (a star, meaning auxiliary road) + Osaka (meaning slope).
Hence the nickname: Ethereumโs โsloping side road.โ
๐ฅ Bottom line:
Fusaka opens the door to cheaper L2s, higher throughput, smarter gas markets, and safer execution โ and the real scaling jumps arrive in December and January.
This upgrade matters. A lot.
