Another quarrel between the US and the EU

The European Commission fined X (colossal Twitter) $120 million for “fraudulent people” with blue ticks, - BBC

After Musk joined the platform, X launched a paid “blue checkmark” system for confirming accounts. Some of the fake profiles were also unchecked.

The EU decision drew a strong reaction from the US:

➡️ State Secretary Rubio called the fine “an attack on all American tech platforms and the American people”;

➡️ Vice President Vance said that the EU “has a responsibility to promote freedom of speech, not to fine companies through friction.”
