what they can do is actually very limited:

All that is needed is to quietly record:
What are its design highlights;
Where might it get stuck;
Whether the team continues to deliver afterward.
Once all this is observed,
even if the final decision is "not to participate",
this observation will become your experience for judging projects next time.
