The market generally expects that Kevin Hassett, the Director of the White House National Economic Council, will be appointed as the next Chair of the Federal Reserve. However, a CNBC Federal Reserve survey shows that 84% of respondents believe Trump will nominate him, while only 11% think he "should" do so.
Federal Reserve Governor Waller is in the lead with a 47% support rate, followed closely by Walsh with 23%, but only 5% of respondents believe Trump will nominate either of these two.
Concerns about Hassett focus on his commitment to the Federal Reserve's dual mandate and independence. 76% of respondents believe the next Chair will be more dovish than Powell, 51% think he may satisfy Trump's demand for rate cuts, and 41% believe he will act independently.
