Hundreds of long-dormant crypto wallets linked to the Silk Road darknet marketplace suddenly became active on Tuesday, transferring about $3.14 million in BTC to an unidentified address. Data from Arkham Intelligence shows 312 wallets moved the funds, though the reason behind the activity remains unknown. These wallets still hold approximately $41.3 million in bitcoin.
Earlier this year, Coinbase’s Conor Grogan identified around $47 million in BTC associated with Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht. On Tuesday, he resurfaced his findings after new related transfers were detected by the pseudonymous operator 0xG00gly from Plasma Foundation.
The moves come months after President Donald Trump issued a full and unconditional pardon for Ulbricht, who had been serving multiple life sentences for operating Silk Road. Despite Silk Road’s role in enabling illegal goods trading, it was instrumental in Bitcoin’s early adoption.
In May, Ulbricht delivered his first public speech after the pardon, highlighting themes of freedom, decentralization, and unity as guiding principles for future technological progress.
