Ethereum Expands L2 Capacity as BPO-1 Goes Live
Ethereum has officially activated BPO-1, raising the blob capacity to 15 per block and instantly giving Layer-2 networks more room to scale — all without requiring a hard fork.
This upgrade directly boosts data throughput for rollups, easing congestion and lowering costs across the L2 ecosystem.
The Foundation also confirmed that BPO-2 is scheduled to go live in January, bringing another round of capacity expansion. With both upgrades in motion, Ethereum is positioning its rollup roadmap for a smoother, higher-bandwidth 2026 cycle.
More space, more efficiency — and a stronger foundation for L2 growth.
