On 8 December 1958, Gwadar was officially handed over to Pakistan by Oman, marking a defining moment in the country’s maritime history. It was a day that reshaped Pakistan’s strategic outlook along the Arabian Sea.
A Pakistan Navy platoon led by then Lieutenant Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey, who would later become Chief of the Naval Staff, raised the national flag in Gwadar for the first time. This historic event laid the foundation for the city’s future development and strengthened Pakistan’s long-term maritime presence.
