Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday in a New York federal court for crimes related to the $40 billion market loss triggered by the 2022 Terra-Luna ecosystem collapse, with core charges including fraud-related offenses.

Judge Paul Engelmayer pointed out in court that Kwon "deliberately lied" during the project's operation and "continuously made wrong decisions," ultimately causing massive losses for global investors. Reviewing the case's progress: Kwon was indicted in March 2023 on 9 charges including conspiracy to commit fraud, commodity fraud, and securities fraud (if all convicted, he could face up to 135 years); in August 2024, he pleaded guilty to two core charges (telecommunications fraud, conspiracy to commit fraud), reducing the maximum sentence to 25 years, while the prosecution also requested a fine of $19 million.
