ADNOC Distribution to accept AE Coin payments across nearly 1,000 stations

ADNOC Distribution, the UAE’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, will begin accepting payments in AE Coin across nearly 980 service stations in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. The move marks an early real-world use case for a sovereign-backed digital asset in everyday retail transactions.

Under a memorandum of understanding with Al Maryah Community Bank, customers will be able to pay using AE Coin via the AEC Wallet at fuel pumps, Oasis by ADNOC convenience stores, and car wash facilities. ADNOC Distribution operates 562 stations in the UAE, 172 in Saudi Arabia, and 243 in Egypt.

AE Coin is the UAE’s first stablecoin licensed by the Central Bank and is backed 1:1 with the dirham. Its adoption by ADNOC Distribution brings the digital currency into mainstream commerce, potentially reaching millions of consumers across the company’s extensive retail network.

According to ADNOC Distribution CEO Bader Saeed Al Lamki, the initiative represents a meaningful step toward integrating secure, regulated digital payment solutions into everyday retail, highlighting the growing role of blockchain-based payments in the region.
