The future is here
On December 11, 2023, U.S. time, TIME magazine announced the selection of the "Creators of AI" as the Person of the Year for 2025. Eight leaders in the AI industry graced the magazine's cover, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, AMD CEO Lisa Su, xAI CEO Elon Musk, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and renowned computer scientist and Stanford professor Fei-Fei Li.
TIME magazine posted on social media: "The Creators of AI have ushered in an era of machine thinking, evoking both awe and concern in humanity. They have changed the present and surpassed possibilities, which is why they have been named TIME's Person of the Year for 2025."
TIME's editor-in-chief, Sam Jacobs, wrote in the article: "The 'Person of the Year' is an effective way to draw the world's attention to those who shape our lives. This year, no one's influence is greater than those who conceive, design, and create AI." Jacobs believes that humanity will collectively decide the future form of AI, and everyone can play a role in the final structure and direction of AI.
Regarding this nomination, Jacobs explained that TIME magazine specifically nominated individuals who "conceive, design, and build" behind AI technology, rather than the technology itself. He described 2025 as "a year when the full potential of AI is revealed, and also a year that clearly shows there will be no turning back or exit options": "Whatever the question is, AI is the answer."
