Pakistan Signs Landmark Agreement with Binance to Explore Asset Tokenization Pakistan's Finance Ministry announced on Friday a significant partnership with global cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The two parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the tokenization creating digital versions of up to $2 billion worth of government owned assets. Key Focus: Sovereign and Commodity Assets The collaboration will assess the potential for using blockchain technology to digitize and distribute a range of real-world assets.These include sovereign bonds, treasury bills, and national commodity reserves such as oil, gas, and metals. The initiative aims to enhance market liquidity and attract new investment. Separate Regulatory Approval Granted In a parallel development,Pakistan’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) granted preliminary clearance to Binance and digital-asset platform HTX. This allows them to begin the registration process to establish local subsidiaries and prepare for full licensing applications as virtual asset service providers. Building Technical Expertise Under the proposed agreement,Binance is expected to provide technical advisory support, training, and capacity building. This assistance is intended to help Pakistan develop a modern and compliant blockchain infrastructure for these financial innovations. Government Commitment to Execution Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb hailed the agreement as a very strong message to Pakistan and the international community. He emphasized the partnership's long-term nature and the progress made toward operationalization.
