When OG holders sell call options, market makers who buy those calls must delta-hedge their exposure. That hedge often involves selling spot Bitcoin, which pushes price lower â even if underlying demand, such as ETF inflows, remains strong. The result is a disconnect where structural derivatives activity overrides visible spot demand. This explains why Bitcoin can struggle to rally despite consistent ETF buying. Itâs not a lack of interest â itâs a mechanical drag created by options positioning. As long as covered call selling dominates, upside momentum can stay capped.
