Michael Saylor's Strategy (MSTR) remains in the Nasdaq 100 index (which consists of the 100 largest and most influential companies on the Nasdaq, excluding banks and financial companies), despite recently undergoing its annual rebalancing with many significant changes. This adjustment removes 6 large companies and adds 3 new names, effective from December 22, but Strategy is not excluded.
Originally a software company, Strategy pivoted in 2020 towards a Bitcoin accumulation strategy. As a result, Strategy's stock price fluctuates significantly with Bitcoin's price, quite different from traditional business models.
This is controversial as many believe Strategy resembles a Bitcoin investment fund rather than a technology business. Some organizations like MSCI are considering removing such companies from the index.
